aidil adha in sultan mosque

November 27, 2009

assalamualaikum everyone.. salam hari raya hajj, salam aidil adha.. happy ied for all of us..^^

this morning i could manage to go to sultan mosque to have moment of hari raya hajj in singapore. last year i went to indonesian embassy, so this year, decided!, this full of moment mosque^^
humm moment??.. hee.. firstly, i eventually visit and pray here in many my times. secondly, this is such an iconic mosque of singapore. i just love the feeling of this unique architecture that is much influenced by local and hindi architecture, and the feeling of its sorrounding just hospitally human scale. just love it. a nice and warm environment.

accompanied boyfriend to pray, having period, i could grabs some pictures to share wif you…;)

Sultan mosque, Kampong Glam. Singapore.

Prayers attending mosque, and pray together. Men is fullfilling the mosque floor areas, until the second floor which initially was occupied by women. women is occupying the hall beside the main building of this mosque. they provide more shelter for more prayers.

Those two pictures above i took in a very happening moment. just right at the time..^^ (*gladly) Those youngsters is actually a bit late attending the praying. Saw the mosque in this side is full, they straightly lay their wide scarf over the floor. but one of them, just forgot to take off his shoes..:) Interesting. Nice picture, ain’t it?^^

After pray.

Goats for kurban. you can ibadah kurban for about 250 sgd per person.
those goats are filly. see the leather? definately not breed in singapore. my friend said they come from australia. not yet read the real article about it^^
do singapore its own goat husbandary?:D

Preparing for food for prayers. and in preparing to manage the meat distribution of kurban.

Some just got luck in business. Taking advantage from morning times and many prayers come, these guys just almost sold out their newspaper. people just come right away after praying to them. some bought more than one tittle of newspaper. whooww.. what a day for the vendor, isn’t it?;)

Another i noticed was, the clothes! many cultures, many types of clothes the prayers wear. but, one thing clearly seen is the men. for local singaporean malay, in a big day of religious day, they ussualy wear type of saman clothes. not sure what they call for this type. the clothes ussually comes with one bright plain colour, patternless. and they encomplete it with folded sarong for the half upper pants, like wearing skirts. ussually they waer hhe same colour fir certain groups like one family.

Hindi clothes, combined with scarf worn by hindi women.

Local singaporean malay boys wearing its traditional clothes in big day of hariraya hajj.

again! selamat hari raya haji for us;)

reserved

“this area is resrved for friday prayers”. this is a corridor in mosque of masjid moulana mohamed ali in singapore. this mosque is located below the tower of UOB in clarkquay. only a signage indicating that there is a mosque in the basement. once we stepping down through the staircase, those words in picture is welcoming you. same thing like in indonesia, during the friday prayers ussually the prayers that comes to mosque is blowing. they use this gate. but the way they reserve by writing it down on in advance is quite interesting:)

VII. apa tampon?

June 24, 2009

snorkling. biasanya kapal ferry berkapasitas sekitar…orang

bilang, kamu coba gunakan tampon. ups tampon. what is tampon?

My travel mate explained to me after we left the room.
“What??”
“dia nawarin gua itu??!!?!?!”
“mungkin biasa sih ya, tapi bhokk. ini baru pertamakalinya guatau ttg istilah ini”
“mana gua tanya belinya dimana lagi”

“tuh di 7-11 seberang juga ada”

……. -_-!

VI. egyptian guy

June 24, 2009

laki-laki asing, bule, didalam lift tersebut. one of them
hold the button to keep the lift door open. i came in and
said, “thanks”. in the lift i stood right in front of the
lift door. just like staring at the lift door. they went to
the same floor with me. i dont have to press the number 5
button. one of them said “waalaikumsalam…”. i smiled at
him at a glance and back stared at the lift door. i many
times got assalamualaikum in thailand from man. it’s
ussually happends just like they try to just want a say it
to someone, that obviuously iam muslim, wearing tudung. so,
in the lift i just smiled and ignore it. i didn’t even look
at their face.

5 second ater i stared back to the lift door. the one who
gave me salam said, “good muslim..”. fastly look back at the
man, and unintensionly asked,” thanks, why?”. i just thought
that they were two european foreigner. but when i looked at
him along asking “why”, i saw a black mark on his face.
probably he’s muslim. than right after i ask as i notice the
black mark on his face, he answerd “your hijab is nice”,
smiling. “thank you”, i smiled back. in this lonely planet
of mine in thailand, there is a foreigner commented my
appearance. hwaah, as iam a girl, i felt so excited^^.

fifth floor, i asked him where he comes from. “egypt”,

muslim. “you’re thai right?”. “no, i come from indonesia”.
“indonesia”, he excited. “bali!”. “no”, i said.
“yogyakarta”. “nice”, he said. “nice to meet you”, i quit. i
ffelt thankful god meet me to such a nice polite guy thouhg

V. Roti

June 24, 2009

roti in indonesian language means bread. but in thai roti is
more look like a martabak. a little crispy. it’s made from
egg, flour, milk, sugar and additionally the vendor added
slices of bananas. tastes nice.

Jim Thompson’s house

June 24, 2009

Jim Thompson’s house.
a traditional thai style house that designed and owned by
Jim Thompson. who is Jim Thompson?

the house is using wood with red painted. it’s located right
aside by the small river. they call it canal. all made from
wood. structurely and finishes. he’s an architect himself.
he’s keen on collecting unique and rustic stuff. and he put
it in this house. form buddha sculpture to chinese bowl. the
mistery of the lost of him also is issued as an attracting
side for people to come and see this house of him.

Jim Thompson’s house is near our hotel. it’s located also
near Siam one of shopping areas in thailand. at first, we
saw tuk-tuk the tai pedican, but more look like bajaj. three
wheel public car with 2 row seat. the first row is for the
driver only and the second row is for 2-3 people to sit. the
different with bajaj is. bajaj cannot go backside, can it?.
but tuk-tuk can do. the tuk-tuk driver refused to ride us to
siam area cos he said it’s only 3 minutes walk from where we
are. i and mbak ade walked, and bought ROTI for only 10
baht. it’s judat like a martabak but the simple ine. the
vendor used tudung like me.

III. taxi to hotel

June 24, 2009

we’re taking taxi from airport. we randomly got the taxi
driver after we had our breakfast. he carged us 500baht from
airport to hotel. about more than 2 hours to got o hotel
plus the 3 times go rounding the same way looking for our
small hotel. the taxi driver hardly speak english. cant at
all. we shown him the map and the address of the hotel and
he asked some policeman to show him the way when already
nearby the hotel. we checked in to our room. number 511.

Grand Wattergate Hotel. a small hotel. first impression,
it’s nice and new hotel. only got 6 storeys and small
recepsionist but nice finishes. we got room number 511, 5th
floor. a queen size bed, refrigerator, toilet, tv, cupboard.
anice small hotel. arrived in hotel at 1 pm and right away
took a bath. afterthat, we on spot just started to read our
lonelyplanet book, a guide to thailand journey. we decided,
Jim Thompson’s house for first visit.

saatnya mencari breakfast. makan pagi, setelah berkeliling
takada burgerking atau mcD yang biasanya diketahui halal.
tapi aku tak menemuinya. dan rata-rata dari stalll2 di
terminal ini memiliki menu pork, babi. kutanyakan pada salah
satu guardnya. “is there any halal food stall here?. he
doesnt understand my question. he keeps straighten his
forehead upon me. i assumed, he didn’t understand. “do you
have muslim food around here?”. he nodded understand. and
told me to go to first storey, he said it was an indian
muslim food. he nicley explained to us. “thanks”, i said.
when we were approaching second storey from 3rd storey, we
met him again. and he vigorously asked us to follow him
showing the first sorey muslim food stall. his face always
smiling. it’s just another first big impression, thai people
is so damn friendly. more than the famous
friendly-indonesian people. there you go, he shown us the
stall. i ate chicken rice there.
